Exactly. We really aren't getting a good bang for the buck spent on our military.

Really, though, it's not that we are having trouble in the Middle East. At warfare, no one can beat us. But at pacification of a country to nation build, it's too easy for the besieged to use asymmetric war to harry us and keep us fighting indefinitely until we run out of money.

That is a problem that we will never be able to spend our way out of. Rather, we have to change tactics. I'm proposing that we simply stop nation building. If we go to war, then we go to war to inflict punitive measures, not to rebuild afterwards.
