She knows a lot about this stuff (healthcare issues) and if she has to go this far to find an example for Medicare's inadequacy, I would have to say just quite opposite to what I think she is insinuating, Medicare is a pretty good system.

Maybe not necessary for new retirees like you and me with no current health conditions, but such prudence becomes more reasonable as you increase the age.

My thoughts exactly. I understand the prudence but there's a lot of difference between a healthy sixty something and a ninety something. The parties should be able to evaluate the risk and make individual judgments accordingly just like they do for any other procedure.
