For one, polls show that the majority of people do NOT want taxpayer funded abortion, but Dems have persistently tried to wiggle that into the health care bill anyway.

The conflict is inherent to government funded health care provision. I don't think there's any resolution short of sticking with private sector insurance or making abortion illegal. You can't reasonably expect either side to forfeit its rights. As long as its legal and routine it has to be part of the package. OTOH, people who find it anathema shouldn't have to pay for it.

It was inevitable that the issue would blow up as soon as they started using government moneys to buy health care. I don't think there's a fix. You expect one side to concede. I don't.

<<<It's all very discouraging. I find myself often thinking "who are these people, and where are these decisions coming from.">>>

Unfortunately it is coming from a person trying to work within our system and trying to make it work. It could be that he is just not tough enough for the job but more likely it is the situation. It is nearly an impossible situation.

I think we should give him a break. He inherited a lot of garbage.

Unless you see someone else out there with the ability and real solutions, giving up on Obama now and talking down our situation is a real tragedy.

>>A second decision that has peeled off voters is the decision to surge in Afghanistan. Right or wrong, Obama had created the impression while campaigning that he would be looking for ways to disengage America from the ME as quickly as possible.<<

Obama was explicit during the campaign about withdrawing troops from Iraq (which is in the Middle East) and sending more troops to Afghanistan (which isn't). So I really don't understand why people are surprised or disappointed about that.

I do see why they're disappointed about other things.
