I think you are correct. The one good thing about a VAT is that everyone has to pay it. It also captures income from the underground economy.

The Obama lie that the welfare state for 98% of the population for free on the backs of the top 2% is something he needs to be forced to admit was a LIE - a big lie. Either that or he is/was too stupid to know better.

A gasoline tax would be another way to generate a large amount of income.
