Did you confirm those quotes as being accurate? And ALL of those Arab states were developed on land that PREVIOUSLY BELONGED to vanquished Ottoman Empire, an empire that was conquered by the cost of European blood and treasure. Now.. consider the following in terms of that era, an era of empires (although ebbing at the time). Do you think the British and French conquered that empire merely so a bunch of Arabs and/or Jews could carve it up into their own little parochial fiefdoms? Do you think the British/French conquered Palestine, many of the inhabitants therein fought with the Ottomans, merely to hand it over to the existing effendi and powerful clans/tribes who HAD BENEFITED FROM OTTOMAN RULE? Sure.. no doubt that TE Lawrence was able to rally the Bedouin tribes to draw Turkish forces away from the British thrust into Palestine, but there was little doubt as to the eventual outcome, the Ottomans were going to be defeated by the British and French. But HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF BRITISH AND FRENCH SOLDIERS DIED, OR WERE WOUNDED defeating the Turks. So I think that gave them considerable leeway in deciding how Palestine was going to be carved up. So.. I'm really sorry for the Palestinian Arabs. But since it was pretty clear that the Jews were doing a better job of developing the land than the Arabs, if I was a British Administrator hoping to make that "colony" pay for its own administrative and military occupation costs, I'd go with the Jews. It's pretty clear that both the Jews and the Arabs would find it easier to live without the presence of the other. But minus a war that involves WMD usage by either side, Israel is just not going to disappear. So for the Palestinian Arabs to think they are going to expel the Jews is folly and it severely detracts from their cause. Let the Palestinian Arabs stop this hostility and focus upon economic and political progressive development. Let us see what happens when they focus all that human emotion and devotion to positive social change and a better future. When I see that, then maybe I can spare some sympathy for the Palestinian Arabs. Hawk
