If you are going to have world trade, you need agreements between nations on how that trade is conducted.

The UK did have Keynes who was a respected figure at the time to help form these agreements, if Brazil et al can produce an economist of equal stature, that person would be welcome by all to help forge agreements I am sure.

The Bretton Woods agreement lasted for just two decades, not 50, and the UK did not "ride it". That is a ridiculous view.

"Divide and Rule" is not new. Kind of old hat actually as is the notion that Britain still has an empire. Lots of powerful nations, corporations, empires, and criminal organizations use such a technique to control thier subordinates, not just the British Empire when it existed. Adolf Hitler is a famous example, he kept the likes of Himler and Goebbles in line (who incidentally was a dab hand at spreading blame and ire) using a "Divide and Rule" technique. It's a favourite amongst dictators.
