I'm not sure why it is, but it's true. You go where you look. On a bike, going into a tight turn, you look far out into the apex of the turn and beyond. You don't focus on the road in front of you. The bike goes where you look. If you draw your focus in, and look at the tree coming up, or the curb, or whatever, you're more likely to head that way.
