Someplace I read that there are 5,000 miles on the Maine coast, and wouldn't doubt that with all the ins and outs of the coastline. Must be a real hard thing to do to guard that coast! Is Mt. Desert near Bar Harbor...? Seems like it is...We love Bar Harbor ...hadn't been there for probably 30 years, and found when we went back 2 years ago, it was the same, but refreshed. There is a ton of traffic there, but somehow the city fathers have made it easy to get through and around. Can't say the same thing for Boothbay (or East Boothbay either)...that town is sleepy, and looks a bit tattered. We loved it years ago, but not this time....very difficult to get around...We did stay at a lovely place there outside town The Pines Inn I think it was. LOVED Camden...Quaint, old and new at the same time. Went through Rockport, but not enough time to do it properly....Hope for a next time to go back. Portland was fun too...We stayed at the Portland Hotel in what we would call here, the Pioneer Square area. Right in the historic part of Portland. The hotel is SUPER, first class all the way, and you wouldn't realize that from the outside particularly. When I made the reservations for the trip, I made them solely from the pictures they put up on their websites. I figured they would put up their best pictures, so if the pictures were not up to snuff, the whole place would be that way. Turns out, that was a good way to go....Hubby thought I'd done a great job and got some good prices while I was at it...High praise from him. He did go to RPI....Because it was his class 50th, all of us got royal treatment! We really had a great time, and some good tours of the campus, including a tour of the new Communications building ...complete with hard hats as it wasn't finished. That building will be simply amazing! I also liked the old beautiful church that is now the Computer Center! Highly inventive, but then again, typical for those folks. Grace, if you are out here again, please let me know...I'd love to meet you. Several of us here have met over the years. Have met Carolyn and Neeka, and Sarkie, and Rudi, plus several of the guys on various trips through. I have family near Tacoma, and Olympia, and both Hubby and I LOVE the LaConner and Anacortes area...We go up there at least 4-5 times a year just for the heck of it. And of course, we live in Seattle, and know it pretty well <ggg> West Seattle of course is a great picture taking place, as well as now having some fun little restaurants. I grew up there. Each of the areas in and near Seattle have their own charm...Come on out...Temps been in the 40's and 50's...and so far this winter, no snow to shovel....Knock wood.
