I think you are right. I have represented mostly seniors over quite a long career and when interest rates are artificially low they try to find yield somewhere and they increase risk. That is why so many were sucked into the stock market. Many of those would have been happy to keep their assets in interest bearing securities if they could have gotten a fair return.

Lots of folks are being forced to speculate not out of greed but out of fear as they desperately struggle to keep their heads above water in a weak economy

The truly sad thing about these bubbles is that most folks get in near the top and panic out near the trough.
