Chris, here's my take.

There is no doubt WDC is a great value at these levels. I still think it will go loer in the short term because the markets aren't out of trouble yet and it is still in the dog house. I'm thinking that the Asian markets may catch another flu and when they do, look out below, because WDC will probably fare worse than most.

If we have a decent rally and get into the low to mid 30s, then I think support will hold at 30. If WDC is stagnant before any kind of fall, it will be shattered and we will be out in no man's land without support until 26-27.

So it would probably be smarter just to buy it. I'm being an idiot and trying to time it. I might very well miss it, and we know that when it takes off, it's going back to 50! I guess I'll look really smart then! <g>

Brian

granted, murphy may not be the best stock picker,
but in his oct 6 piece (on si) he makes the following
point after discussing this week's conference in san
diego...

<<when you get an announcement as we did the other day from Western Digital that their
September quarter is going to be weak because the summer was weak, thats just setting you up for a good 4th quarter. There's going to be a good snap coming out of that conference. On the biotech side
there is a whole ton of stuff coming.>>

we did look better today, continuing friday's small
improvement.i do not attribute this entirely to the
conference; i merely want to reinforce your point
below.

i have been a wdc holder for some time...i traded it
successfully in its momentum days; i held it pre-split,
and sold around 50. and i re-entered around 40, most
recently. i expect it to recover completely, and i
expect it may not take as long as i was beginning to
suspect at the beginning of last week...

i don't enjoy diminished net worth, but wdc is more
resilient than its recent detractors may accept.i am
in for the long term...albeit, after trimming my
regrettably large holding in the face of our recent
trial by fire. ( i will admit i never expected to see
this bottom again...)
