You know Jim, that's a hell of an idea, one I'm sure they have long been working on! Think of how the market would react to a decent $999 laptop. Just the press would be worth a couple points on the stock. As a corollary, I read the Infoworld article on their plans to intro really cheap servers and grow the market, looks good to me. As for the laptop, don't see why they could not hit that price point if they kept it simple, a 10.4 dstn screen, 1g drive, Cyrix processor. I'm beginning to see 1500 models with 12.1 dstn screens and faster Pentium chips, so I don't see why the lower price point would not be doable, perhaps someone can correct me if I am really off. The limiting factor would seem to be the ability of Cyrix and AMD to provide volume, at least that's what everyone seems to be saying.
