My limited experience is that these type of funds should be viewed as short term plays only--there is a decay factor built in due to the way they are built.
Ie, they are meant for trading, less effective for hedging purposes.

OT - Never have, but I've thought about it although not 2x or 3x.

This is way off topic, but I am always open to learning something. Keeping 98% invested in dividend stocks, I look at a few trades a year in my taxable account as oiling the machine, IF things go right.

Everyone looks at things different. This is the third time the 50 day average has been crossed in the current up trend. Imho, trying to catch the beginning of a move is the toughest thing in the market to do. Shorting on the last two breaches would have lost money. Curious on why you decided this is the right time. I would miss the beginning of the move, but wouldn't even think about shorting unless the 100 day avg. is broken. I also think calling the market is much more difficult than individual stocks.

One of my favorite times to buy is on an oversold 5 day rsi. Currently right where your chart shows.

Although, as I said before, I have been wrong many times, TSYS, the stock I bought Friday was almost oversold. Something it hasn't been ( 5 day rsi ) since mid November. That is why I didn't wait until today, even though I knew today could put it into oversold territory. Added 3k today @ 9.25, and it will show oversold on the 5 day when charts update tonight. ( well, now I'm standing here in my underwear AND out $450 at the moment )

I'm also aware that something overbought or oversold can stay that way, one reason I use a shorter rsi. The moves are sharper, at least to me.

I'm no good at posting charts, but if you put a 5 day rsi on BGZ you will see what I mean. Buying when it is oversold instead of overbought would definitely change the outcome.

Just a thought at the moment, and anyone please jump in, but I'm thinking at a break of the 100 day moving average, the inverse funds will show overbought. Waiting for them to go oversold on the 5 day might be the right time to try it out.

Of course everyone can use whatever number they want. When it comes to buying, I just like the 5 day.

Don't touch these, they are scams. On a intra day basis, if you want to gamble, they may work out for you every once in awhile. But if hold these longer than a day you will end up losing money over the long term. Much like Vegas. PM me if want more details why you are guaranteed to lose money over long term.

IMNSHO, it is much more fun and productive to play the slots at Bellagio. The SI boards are littered with warriors who were wounded in battle with the 2 and 3X inverse funds.
