Rahm Emanuel is out of the sleezy politics of the past and is one of the main reasons why Obama is mired in the same sleeziness. The Democrats have essentially alienated their base by trying to appease the conservatives, instead of trying to get things done and pursue the liberal agenda while they are in control of Congress. This move to freeze domestic spending and continue increasing military spending is another attempt to appease the conservatives that will backfire as their liberal base defects and conservatives go on bashing the President. Poor political strategy.

Just give us something to support. In the Reagan era, we could support Democrats because they were for increased domestic spending and against excessive defense spending. Now the Obama Democrats want to repeat the Reagan spending priorities, and where does that leave the rank and file Democrats? This is probably Rahm Emanuel's attempt to remake the President into some working class hero like Reagan, but it's not going to work. It will backfire.
