Obama: I'd rather be a good, one-term prez

Some days? Totally not worth it.

President Obama is getting all weird and introspective lately. Was that Massachusetts senate race some kind of Rubicon for him? Or is it more like his handlers are telling him to get more personal, admit fallibility and connect with people? We'll have to wait for the book. But in the meantime, the president sat down with Diane Sawyer from ABC News:

<<< "I'd rather be a really good one-term president than a mediocre two-term president," he told Sawyer in an exclusive interview today. >>>

Right now we hear the howls from our Beltway Confidential colleagues -- what about a mediocre one-term president?! Stand down, Hemingway, Freire and Freddoso. You're adorable, but you're predictable.

<<< "You know, there is a tendency in Washington to believe our job description, of elected officials, is to get reelected. That's not our job description," Obama said. "Our job description is to solve problems and to help people." >>>

Cue screaming from editorialists. The interview airs tonight and tomorrow, on all the ABC News shows: Nightly, Nightline, GMA.
