Sdgla, pure bullchit, the article states:
"Lee Smith makes a compelling case that the United States must understand the ancient conflicts and enmities that animate the Arabs, but must also understand that America, alone among world powers, is uniquely qualified to guide the Arab world out of its troubled past."

What kind of horse-shit comment is that? The West totally, totally preyed upon the conflicts, and aggravated the conflicts, and created conflicts by creating unnatural countries in the MidEast after WWI that would always be in conflict. That was due to the self-interest of the West to exploit resources from the instability it created and which it maintains to this day in the Middle East. The Arab world can get out of its troubled past as soon as the Western world allows the regional countries to solve its own problems, only then will the Middle East become a peaceful place for its citizens.
