It started in 1980 with the election of Raygun who said: "government is not the solution it is the problem). I guess he forgot about sewers, water systems, roads, paramedics ambulances, military defense, etc. So Raygun let loose the powers and deception of Lee Atwater and the neo cons to lay waste to our social systems and weaken the rules and regulations that kept us safe for 50 years. Like Glass Steagel. Reagan was "recruited" by a group of powerful corporate leaders to disassemble the rules and regulations that held back profits. The next step was to supplant as much government as possible with private industry e.g. replacing public prisons with private prisons (which is fucking nuts!!). So for 30 years the right wing has been disassembling our social structure. Union busting, laws, etc; and first thing Raygun did was make an example of the air traffic controllers. Having been in hardball politics for 30 years I remember saying to myself (to the air traffic controllers) "you fools, he will beat you to a pulp and so he did". I knew cold, that Raygun had planned this. The very first thing all machiavillian politicians do is pick a fight with someone tough and smashed them to show who is boss. And did Raygun ever smash them. They are still recovering. Raygun enlisted the neo cons, who follow Milton Friedmans "greed is good" Ayn Rand nonsense and that is how and when it started. So post me your social theory, not the fact you dislike the fact Ceaser Chavez was trying to unionize farm workers, or you are mad a your kids school teacher because she gets a summer vacation..
