That bill wasn't what Obama proposed, though, and it doesn't go to the heart of the matter re the budget and deficit. He had all 60 on pay-go, which he wanted. all 40 repubs voted against, which shows their true colors on any interest in responsible budgeting and dealing with the deficit.

Bush did not have a 60 vote majority in the Senate and he got several legislation through including ones which curtailed our liberties (The Patriot Act). His success could be attributed to the Repubs were united behind him and he needed the support of a handful of Dems which he got. The same was with Reagan. Remember his outburst at one of his meetings with the Repub House members where he yelled out to a HOuse member who was disagreeing with him something like "Hey who brought you to Washington. Want to come back?" Obama does not have the support of all of his own party members to begin with. HOw can he expect the Repubs to support him? Party unity is paramount to achieving what the American people want and have voted them to work towards. You know, Chinu, I want to see the roll call vote. I just did a quick search and the only article on this issue is in the WA Post. Something is fishy. Let me see who voted.
