It has been a long run for the banks with the Fed being created in 1913 and the government resorting to fiat currency in 1935/1971. All of this is of course a violation of the constitution and sternly warned against by the founding fathers. It gave the illusion of prosperity for quite a while, but no longer. The productive part of the US economy, industry, agriculture, resources, has been hollowed out. The US economy is just a money churning and consumption machine at this point. The government can no longer realistically finance itself. The consumer can no longer take on more debt. No one is buying stocks except professionals and dollar carry trade players. It is nearly game over for Wall St, in my opinion. The taller they get the harder they fall. That is not to say those that profited on Wall St won't bail at the last minute and found the next scam, but I don't believe the current situation can resolve positively for Wall St as we know it. Even the elite will not enjoy the bust as much as they enjoyed the boom.
