The recession hit the industrialized northwest Indiana particularly hard.

While I was not able to find any numbers for disposable income that cut off at 2004, the U.S. Census Bureau has reported that between 2005 and 2008 the average personal disposable income (in constant dollars) in Indiana has increased by 1.98%, from $24,545 in 2005 to $25,031 in 2008. During that same period, the national average increased by 4.78%, from $27,431 in 2005 to $28,742 in 2008.
