it might be healthy to reorder our priorities and examine whether continued growth and an increasing standard of living are really critical for a nation of people with roofs over their heads, food to eat and, maybe someday, widespread health care. Critical? Maybe not, but very important, much more so than almost all of the political battles we get in to today. And this just considering improvements in individual standard of living. If you take the more general increase in wealth which goes along with such an improvement, then you also get more ability to pay for/deal with other problems that some might place against or put above, improvements in the standard of living.
