james...

i agree with you.<<i think we are finally getting past the days where everyone was Intel brand conscious>> my point was a simple one
and it relates to charlie's closing remark.

the intel image has been embedded for some time ( sorry.
i couldn't resist.) in the market; it has a ubiquitous
presence and by default, consumers trust it. consider
how few consumers have ever even had to make intel
an affirmative purchase, make a conscious decision to
buy intel. it has simply not been an issue.

UNTIL NOW, of course: with the advent of the sub$1000
computer market, so begins the possibility of
choices where there were previously none. i think it
will be exciting, but as charlie notes, intel is not
used to taking a back seat.

idt needs some savvy moves to shore up any leads it may
still have in the way of shipping its new products
before they become stale...and they should be moving
quickly on the graphics niche before they are outdistanced
before they get to market.

what i feel is key: to educate, to enlist a consumer,
if you will. give a consumer a sense that buying idt
is the smartest thing to do today. buying intel would
simply be acting out of habit, whereas the world is
changing...and idt is at the vanguard of that change.
