China cannot cut US out. It needs "shipment of especially key pieces of American know-how" to keep coming.

"Although China controls more of the world's exports than ever before, its high-return high-tech industries are dominated by foreign companies."
SOURCE: Foreign Affairs

China obviously does not like that. Why work hard to be a workshop and import commodities com gusto from Australia and Brazil as a platform to make goods only?

They need the high profitable high tech, thus need the technology.

As you can see with the push for green technology, China wants to go upmarket. Not only to enter more profitable sectors. The government elite wants the country to e seen as to be in technological forefront as a matter of prestige.

As you know too, Chinese are a proud people. They have an intrinsic proud on their country. That pride propels them ahead.

China is aiming to tranform their economy. Companies such as Huawei and ZTE are showcases on what China can achieve. In less than 20 years from a maker od PABXs into a competitor shoulder to shoulder with Ericsson and Nokia.

China would like to have Chinese producing iPHONE and not only having Foxconn making them.

The crowd driving cloud-computing is the usual people: US foreign companies.

China cannot alienate the US because it needs its technology.
