Like the framers wanted to constrain congress so it drew straws to find some context for doing so.

The did want to constrain congress. A powerful, intrusive, government is a dangerous government.

They also wanted to protect free speech, and the method they chose was a restraint on congress.

The corporation is an independent entity.

The corporation is an entity that has a legal independence from its shareholders and employees, but it is still the vehicle they use for collective operation. It is still a collection of people acting together. A brook is not.

A much better example to use might be the Democratic Party. You can sue the party, and if you win the money doesn't come from people who register to vote as a member, or from people employed by the party. Its a legally separate entity. But not allowing it to campaign for candidates (or people to collectively campaign for candidates using its structure, whichever formulation suits you) would be a violation of free speech.
