Obama Labor nominee lied to Senate?
Sen. Mike Enzi, R-Wyo., issues report on 'factual inconsistencies'

Today, Sen. Mike Enzi has publicly released a 40-page report explaining how Obama's nominee for Solicitor of Labor, Patricia Smith, was untruthful in her Senate testimony. You can download it here. It looks fairly damning for Smith. A cloture vote on Smith's nomination is scheduled for today, and Democrats are trying to slide her nomination through unnoticed.

Enzi has asked for Smith's nomination be withdrawn on the grounds that she did not tell the truth about her role in a controversial "wage and hour watch" program, which she ran as commissioner of the labor department in New York state. Enzi had been circulating a memo around Capitol Hill explaining the background of these charges along with emails that contradicted Smith's testimony.

The program would have deputized union members to go door to door to businesses, interrogating employees and enforcing compliance with labor laws -- a rather problematic conflict of interest.
