Doesn't seem fair to let the private sector take the hit while stimulus money goes to prop up government and their unions, does it?

Nope.. not unless we're trying to create a permanent command economy.

HOWEVER, I do believe there is a place for taxpayer money to be used to drive the private economy via purchases of goods and services (or by reductions in taxes).

There are just certain projects that only the Federal government has the wherewithal and economic incentive to finance.

So the question is having an administration with enough sense of vision to say "This is where we are and this is where we need to go to increase our economic productivity.. Now how do we get there at the least cost to the taxpayer?"
