With all due respect, I believe you need to read the passage again. The context is indeed correct with the word "now". Note that the first sentence refers to "installed option" and the second refers to "standard feature".

I think the confusion lies in the writer's choice of verbiage. Nothing more.

Most computer manufacturers such as Dell, Compaq, Hewlett-Packard, and
IBM are not offering Iomega's new drives as an installed option. As I expected,
Dell has set the industry standard by actually installing Iomega drives as a
standard feature in their higher-end computers.
