I was asked by a non-member to forward this to the SI board:

I've got a point of clarification you may wish to bring to the SI
thread regarding Sheri's post.

I am very into golf, and read all the magazines, and generally like to
think I know a little information about golf. Also, a friend of mine
was on the Nike tour a few years ago; I even tried out for it, but
unfortunately didn't make it. This is an AMATEUR tour, not
PROFESSIONAL like the PGA tour. The people playing on the Nike tour
are AMATEURS. This is why the tournament only made a few thousand.
Do people want to watch amateurs on TV? NO, that's why it's not on TV.
Do people want to pay to see amateurs play? NO. She is comparing
apples and oranges here. The Nike tour is for golfers who are not
good enough to make the PGA (mainly teenagers). Also, AMATEURS on the
Nike tour are not even permitted to be paid by sponsors since they are
not of professional status.

Just thought I'd clarify that for everyone.
