It was the ruthless manner in which he did it and why he did it, The employment regs and contracts clearly stated they would be fired if they struck. I am not sure Reagan even had a choice. But IMO they got what they deserved. Ruthless is good at times.

That is not the point. It was the ruthless manner in which he did it and why he did it, which was to make a point and start the ball rolling on union busting. There was nothing "ruthless" about it. He gave them a deadline to obey the law, told them up front that anyone who didn't do so by the stipulated time would be fired, then he did precisely what he said he would do. How in HELL is that ruthless? I, for one -- though a newly converted liberal -- was cheering.
