The only Democratic example is Clinton, and he only did in in the context of the peace dividend, a tech stock boom, favorable demographics, and a new Republican congress determined to get some control of spending, so no Republican examples since Nixon, doesn't really say much in terms of the larger point that's being pushed (that Republicans are worse for the deficit than Democrats)


I mean... that would be a GREAT STORY if we but had some examples to talk about!


Examples of my point. Of "Label it by the party with the most power in congress, and you'll see a very different story."

Well Reagan's deficits where largely with total Democratic control of congress and completely with at least partial Democratic control. Bush II's largest deficits where with Democratic control of congress, and now we have Obama and the Democrats in congress with a projected debt increase well above Reagan's or Bush's by any measure, nominal dollars, percent of GDP etc.
