I can relate to your story.

A very long time ago I decided to go back and take the CPA exam. I had been out of school for a decade and a half. I passed it and began looking for work with every local accounting firm. There was zero interest from any firm but one who was looking for a rain maker.

I continued in corporate accounting. I got a little more respect, but not much. A decade ago I switched careers and went into sales.

Today I am a small business owner. It is still at the stage where I spend too much time with insufficient rewards. Hopefully with a few changes it will improve.

I was on a school board. I volunteered to be on the personnel committee. We were small enough that the principle / superintendent and board interviewed and hired all certificated staff. Paraeducators were hired by the principle with approval brom the board.

It was interesting to see what factors would sauce the principle to discount an applicant's other qualifications. I remember on two different hires when we agreed on the top three but had them ordered completely differently.

Discontinuity was a bar. One fine applicant had tried business and then went back to teaching college. I wanted to hire her but was outvoted.

The reason a masters is cheapened is that most teachers are paid by years and hours. Every teacher wants more hours of college to give themselves a raise.

I can see why they would want to give staff first shot at tutoring. Can you imagine how staff would like having their opportunities undermined by their own school? I don't know why they wouldn't at least allow you to put your name in a pool. They might find they like you. I would expect they would be impressed with your mind and abilities.

How about self promoting?
