Not only does their software glitch make them a potential glitch but their handling of these problems and the PR is near pitiful."

Japanese companies don't do crises very well. I imagine they are all in meetings trying to figure out what to do, and with no one willing to stand up and take charge, nothing much gets done.

I imagine it will end up with someone committing seppuko. In fairness to the Japanese they typically don't have recall problems with their products.

To be fair, many American companies don't do this sort of thing well until they've been through it at least once. But, traditional Japanese companies have no mechanisms to cope with a crisis. I once watched CBM spend almost a year trying to decide on the exact shade of gray for a power cable. They eventually sent over more than a dozen samples to their American office and had us choose. Took about 5 minutes, they all looked almost identical so the choice was more or less random. They were very grateful.

LOL. That's cute. I had a couple of Japanese stay with me in LA. I found them both anal and seriously child like. One guy was the son of an industrialist who was expected to take over his father's business. He was in his late 20s but acted as if he were a teenager.....not that he was reckless or doing drugs....but he seemed incredibly naive, innocent and inexperienced with life. Yet, he had gone to college in Tokyo.....a very big city. I don't get that aspect of them.
