Sunday's nuclear announcement is the latest, often-contradictory signal from Mr. Ahmadinejad about Iran's willingness to negotiate with Western capitals over its nuclear program. The Obama administration has warned it will push for tough new economic sanctions if Tehran doesn't make progress in nuclear talks.

For Washington and other Western powers—which worry Iran is pursuing nuclear weapons—the IAEA-brokered deal was seen as a first step in building confidence between the two sides. It would also deprive Iran of enough fissile material to make a bomb, at least for a time. For Tehran, the deal would be a quick way to obtain enough fuel to keep its medical reactor running. (Tehran says its nuclear program is peaceful.) But Iranian authorities never approved the deal and have since insisted on various changes.

CHICAGO—Illinois Democrats still reeling from last year's corruption scandal around former Gov. Rod Blagojevich pressured their new nominee for lieutenant governor on Friday to step aside as more embarrassing revelations about his past emerged.
By DOUGLAS BELKIN And DAVID KESMODEL
Scott Lee Cohen, a pawnbroker and political neophyte who pumped $2 million into his campaign, has been responding to charges of domestic abuse, steroid use and adultery since he won the primary for lieutenant governor on Tuesday. Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn, who won his own primary by less than 1% and is slated to share a ticket with Mr. Cohen, has called on him to withdraw. So have Illinois Democratic U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin and the party's nominee for an open U.S. Senate seat, Alex Giannoulias.

Student Obama summed up with near incoherent Lefty gobbledygook:

Indeed, the most pervasive malady of the collegiate system specifically, and the American experience generally, is that elaborate patterns of knowledge and theory have been disembodied from individual choices and government policy. What the members of ARA and SAM try to do is infuse what they have learned about the current situation, bring the words of that formidable roster on the face of Butler Library, names like Thoreau, Jefferson, and Whitman, to bear on the twisted logic of which we are today a part. By adding their energy and effort in order to enhance the possibility of a decent world, they may help deprive us of a spectacular experience — that of war. But then, there are some things we shouldn't have to live through in order to want to avoid the experience.

Who knew?

Nice as it is of the media to scratch the surface journalists should have been mining over a year ago, the current disastrous straits for the country are that — as Jen Rubin contends at contentions — the Obama who is off to Russia to cut unratifiable deals with the recrudescent Soviets hasn't really changed in the ensuing quarter-century.
