>>Why when the going was good no one complained about the illegals<<.

We all know the answer and the dirty little secret. The Republicans did nothing about illegal immigration because the corporations they represent liked having cheap labor which they could also use to bust unions.

E.g. the meat business. Illegals would work in the meat industry for a fraction of what union people got paid and so unionized meat companies could not afford to compete and went out of business or substituted illegals for union workers and our standard of living slipped.

Reagan gave amnesty to 12 million illegals and bush did nothing. Still, everyone likes to blame the dems. Puzzling.

There were extensive complaints about illegal aliens when the going was good, they were adding costs and creating problems for many years.

Even if no aliens were creating problems, they are still illegal - and illegal means illegal. No matter what contribution they make to the US, nor what problems they are fleeing, the US gets to decide who can enter and stay.
