Why should investors get into a hedge fund - and pay the exhorbitant fees and be subject ot whatever redemption rules exist - when they can buy bullion, buy paper gold, hedge on their own, and do a number of things at relatively low cost?

The gold market is not especially complex. I can see getting into hedge funds if the manager has some sort of expertise in some arcane area or is otherwise worthy, but I certainly don't see the need to pay fees and be subject to redemption rules for an investment in gold.
