I can not write naked Puts in the IRA at Schwab (even though I have the funds available on account). I do however, utilize the strategy in my taxable account but only on stocks I must own and the VIX is higher than normal (like over 25).

I write covered calls on a few of my stocks in the IRA but only on those shares I plan to sell and have a gain. I recently sold the June $27 Call on my Bristol-Myers Squibb Company (BMY). My general rule is to only write covered calls that offer $1.05/contract (or more) for a minimum of 5 contracts. This allows me to cover the position in the future and book a gain w/o large transaction costs. Otherwise, it is not worth the effort for the small amount of money gained.

Yes you can, I do it all the time in my Fidelity account and used to when at Etrade. You just have to have the funds available (and have to stay available) to buy the shares if they are put to you.
