>Al, Social Security and Medicare make up over half of the $3.8 trillion budget.

You want to cover the $1.3 trillion deficit with tax hikes and defense cuts alone?

Not exclusively...~half of the 1.3T deficit is due to a recessionary decline in tax receipts...i recognize that we need cuts in spending in other areas as well, including health care. I am not against making financially healthy seniors pick up part of the bill for example...but the basic point is that health care costs are a zero sum game. Besides reduction of costs through efficiency and regulation, there's not much else one can do. The nation is saddled with it.

Keep dreaming, you partisan hack.

Thanks...now let me tell you a little factoid to make you think (for a change)...did you know that prior to Medicare HALF of seniors in the country had NO health insurance?
