What's obvious is in an effort to maintain his far left wing support, and distract the public from his failed economic policies, he's resorted to this kind of controversial issue.

The author is correct that we should focus on winning the war, before experimenting on social changes within the force, and our leadership should be singularly focused on achieving that goal. Instead, we now have the top brass infighting about a homosexual policy during a time of war, which will likely get someone killed who otherwise would not have died. Delaying a shipment, not answering a phone call or an email could lead to disaster under the right circumstances. The President, as Commander in Chief, should have the wisdom to understand the linkage between culture and organizational effectiveness.

He doesn't care, nor does his extreme left wing base, because they rarely have had any loved ones serving in battle - that's for the other people to do. So, experimenting with the military is similar to a social experiment in college class to them.

The average part time professor who's led nothing except his narcissistic campaign, surrounds himself with people of like mind.
