Bob,

In this situation health insurance didn't work. My dad had one of the best policies money could buy but it doesn't cover someone who has a long term disability. My dad has a long term disability policy that he pays over $1000 a month for and is separate from his existing health care policy. But the problem with all of the long term disability policies is they don't pay all of the actual costs for being in special care. Boeing gave him a "gold plated" policy many years ago that the majority of folks could never buy. All policies don't pick up the actual tab for being in a nursing home, not even close.

The lessons learned out of my mother's situation is you better have a couple million dollars saved up for each individual who needs that care. Our insurance system doesn't come close to covering that care. My relatives overseas were shocked that our system doesn't take care of it's citizens!
