I do have a "reasonable expectation of privacy" when I use a cell phone because my calls are encrypted.

I think the way out of this is to buy a satellite phone. And have it's GPS disabled. Perhaps cell phone repairmen will go into a backdoor "GPS disabled" business. I know when buy a moped the dealers will all take the plate off the carb that reduces the speed.

Some parents now use the GPS feature on their kids phones to figure out where they are. Until the kids get wise and turn the phones off when not in use.

"I find the whole cell-phone tracking idea creepy. None of the gummint's business where I am. I don't even have an EZPass for the same reason. And yes, I do have a "reasonable expectation of privacy" when I use a cell phone because my calls are encrypted."

While I instinctively agree, their justification-because a set of suspects "use their wireless telephones to arrange meetings and transactions in furtherance of their drug trafficking activities."-overrides any concerns I may have had.

It is for the children.

I totally agree! The government has NO business tracking our cell phone calls or locations, UNLESS they have proven reason to think we are a terrorist communicating with other terrorist wantabees or their funders. I can't even imagine how expensive it would be to track everyone, to put it into data banks, and to listen to the calls.....WHAT would be the purpose of this? And how many people would have to be employed to do this?

Blackmail comes to mind, readily. This Administration is particularly obnoxious and honestly, scary.

I turned off GPS for the same reason. Perhaps we will have to go back to carrying beepers and only turn on the cell phone to return calls.
