AP source: Kennedy won't run for re-election in RI

By ANDREW MIGA ( say good bye to Camelot, good riddence)
Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) - A Democratic official says Rep. Patrick Kennedy has decided not to seek re-election for his seat representing Rhode Island in the U.S. Congress.
The official spoke to The Associated Press only on the condition that his name not be used because he was not authorized to speak ahead of the official announcement.

The decision by the eight-term congressman comes less than a month after a stunning Republican upset in the race for the Massachusetts Senate seat his late father, Edward Kennedy, held for almost half a century.

Patrick Kennedy has been in and out of treatment for substance abuse since crashing his car outside the U.S Capitol in 2006. Still, he has been comfortably re-elected twice since then, after making mental health care his signature issue in Washington.

Exactly, bentway. It's because the GOP is still full of neanderthals who are fighting last centuries wars. Unfortunately, Obama is falling into the same traps. I like what he's doing in Pakistan, but we need to get our ground troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan and stop all the nation building over there. We need to nation build right here at home.

As far as China, they are engaged in economic warfare. They stay competitive by keeping their currency valuation low and stealing our Intellectual Property through cyber warfare. What they can't get that way, they get by sending Chinese to study here and then enticing them back home. They are the number one exporter and are about to be the number two economy in terms of GDP. In 10-15 years, their economy will surpass ours. I don't think open largescale conflict is in the cards just yet, but I do think that little skirmishes in the political and economic sphere can spiral out of hand and could erupt into some serious problems within the next 20 years and the communists in China get increasingly bold.

We are too focused on Al Qaeda and it's distracting us from the longer range danger that China represents. Sure, let's spend money to keep harrying Al Qaeda, but let's not spend trillions on it. Instead, let's spend trillions on competing with China economically. That makes the most sense.
