Yes. Money is power. China is already the number 1 exporter and has just surpassed Japan to be the second largest economy. Within 15 years, they will surpass us as the world's single largest economy. With that comes economic superiority. With economic superiority comes military superiority. With military superiority comes unprecedented clout in our small world.

That's what you don't get......China doesn't need or want military superiority. They don't need it when you have economic superiority and a huge foreign currency reserve. China is beating us at our own game because smart people like you are not willing to stop beating the military drum. China is spending their money on infrastructure, not defense:

So long as Americans keep thinking like you and Tim, we're screwed.

Mindmeld, no problem. We'll just take away World of Warcraft from China. Even the communist government there can't ignore the outcry that will result.

P.S. - Before you dismiss my post as not serious, think about why the Chinese fear losing WoW over Google ...

Maybe. But keep in mind that a lot of that is because they're just so darned big. They've got four to five times as many people as we do. Per capita, they're nowhere near as well off as we are. And is there any evidence they want to be terribly militarized?

>Remember Darfur. Nothing was done there because of China.

One, i'm not sure we wanted to do anything that badly there. We don't have a great record in Africa. Two, that had more to do with their veto in the UN, which they have regardless of the size of their economy. They don't get an extra vote for increasing the size of their economy.

>Remember Iran. When they have a nuclear bomb, you will all be asking how that happened. I will give you a one word answer. China.

I'm not terribly afraid of Iran getting a bomb.

>All of this is 15 years away. Or less. In fact, it is already happening. They are already beginning to use their new found clout and they don't share our view that all people were created equal and deserve life, liberty, and happiness.

I'm not so sure we really share that view either. We might have that view about our own citizens. Maybe.

>All that government cares about is retaining power and they are using unfettered capitalism to beat us at our own game.

Isn't that the way it's supposed to work?
