The Denver Post reports that "more than a third of the streetlights in Colorado Springs will go dark; the city is dumping firefighting jobs, a vice team, burglary investigators, beat cops... In other words politicians, and public sector unions, choose to have the cut backs in some of the areas where the pain will be greatest and/or most obvious, rather than rationalize government spending, and control the bloat while keeping important services running.
