For the simple reason that I get a negative return on my money with this social security thing. I would much rather the government stay out of the retirement business and let me do my own saving and investing. But if they must stick their nose into it, then at least tag it to my social security number and not give my money away to today's retirees.

Hell, if we can't get most Americans to agree to put it into a target date retirement fund, then fine, put it into US Treasuries. Even there, it would still earn me far more than what they are doing right now.
