You were probably too young to pay attention, but Reagan took apart much of Lyndon Johnson's "Great Society". Reagan emptied the mental hospitals, did away with much of the public and subsidized housing, among many other things.

We really didn't have a homelessness problem in the '60's, 70's and early 80's. To have someone begging on the street just to survive didn't happen in America. It was a third world problem.

That's a gift to America from Reagan.
