I will admit that those wars you mentioned may have not have been genuine threats to our national security and in that sense you are right.

I should have tried to clarify my statement by saying when the nation is threatened the individual's right to these pursuits can be suspended so the nation can defend itself AND require all eligible/qualified individuals to serve in some capacity.

In other words it is understood within our constitutional framework that these rights of the individual are not "absolute", but subject to the other powers enumerated in the constitution that have been interpreted by the Supreme Court.

Is that better?
