IPCC folly of the day

Don Serber blog

The United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change used data from weather stations that were near heat-generating items such as air-conditioners and waste treatment center, which could distort the data.

“A weather station at Rome airport was found to catch the hot exhaust fumes emitted by taxiing jets,” the London Telegraph reported.

The newspaper cited meterologist Anthony Watts, a skeptic of the IPCC’s science. Watts cited a story in the Sunday Times of London.

“The temperature records cannot be relied on as indicators of global change,” said John Christy, professor of atmospheric science at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, a former lead author on the IPCC.

The London Telegraph also reported: “Rising temperatures around the stations, which have been in use for 150 years, could also have been caused by urbanization, the study claimed. One weather station at Manchester airport, which was built when the surrounding land was mainly fields, is now surrounded by heated buildings.”

Who are the fools now?
