Proxima Introduces the Brightest Portable SVGA Multimedia Projector

At 700 Lumens, the Desktop Projector 5900 Is Vivid and Versatile

LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 17, 1997--Proxima(R) Corp. (NASDAQ:PRXM - news), a global leader in the multimedia projection industry, today introduced the Desktop Projector(TM) 5900 (DP5900), the brightest SVGA multimedia projector on the market.

The DP5900 is built on the same platform as Proxima's XGA DP9200 projector which just won PC Magazine's Editors' Choice award, the magazine's highest award for product excellence. Proxima is showcasing the DP5900, along with their full line of multimedia projectors, at COMDEX in booth No. M344 in the Sands Expo and Convention Center, Upper Level.

The DP5900 is a high-quality multimedia desktop projector designed for mobile presenters, such as sales and marketing executives, who encounter a wide range of presentation environments. Delivering XGA to VGA scalability, the DP5900 is a polysilicon SVGA (832 x 624) projector that is compatible with PC and Macintosh computers.

At 700 ANSI lumens, the DP5900 is more than 50 percent brighter than other similar SVGA multimedia projectors, providing users with the flexibility to set up and project sharp and saturated images under any lighting conditions, including fully lit rooms. Weighing in at a comfortable 14 pounds, the DP5900 is one of the lightest projectors in the high-performance SVGA market.

''Today's professionals need to project an impressive image even when they don't have control over their presentation environments,'' said Jerry Hansen, vice president of display products at Proxima. ''By offering the best image quality for the most widely used SVGA notebooks, the DP5900 is the best way to present in any situation.''

The DP5900 employs Proxima's Fit-to-View(R) digital scaling technology, which intelligently transforms any image resolution into a vibrant full-screen image, providing the most advanced XGA imaging capabilities of any SVGA projector. The 1.6:1 motorized lens gives presenters the widest range of zoom settings, enabling them to display images up to 53.3 feet diagonally and at a maximum distance of 92 feet. This feature allows presenters to adapt to and set up in any room configuration, from small conference rooms to large corporate boardrooms.

The DP5900 is one of the first projectors to offer two mouse control ports, giving multiple presenters dynamic control, further increasing the power and effectiveness of presentations. With the most flexible input configuration (i.e., two computer, two video, one S-video, four audio inputs and two mouse control ports), the DP5900 can accommodate multiple presenters and formats, and is compatible with most domestic and international video standards (NTSC, NTSC 4.43, PAL, SECAM and S-video).

The DP5900 is also distinguished by Proxima's new ergonomically designed Laser F/X, the next generation in remote controls. The Laser F/X features a built-in laser pointer and easy-to-use joystick mouse control, providing users maximum convenience and flexibility. Designed for maximum comfort and usability, the Laser F/X remote is a standard accessory in Proxima's DP5900, DP9200, DP5800, and Lightbook 20 multimedia projectors.

The Desktop Projector 5900 will be available in limited quantities the beginning of December through Proxima's network of authorized value-added resellers and distributors for a suggested retail price of $8,999. The projector is backed by a one-year warranty on parts and labor. Proxima also offers a range of additional service and support programs including free technical support for the life of the product.
