The crime is the 22% spent on defense, when we are only threatened by stateless ragheads that live in caves. That is to say, we are truly threatened by no one.

Foreign Aid Spending Is Crippling Our Budget...NOT

I'm well aware that foreign aid is a low percentage of total government spending.

Which doesn't necessarily imply we should make it bigger. Additional spending when we are already spending so much and facing such large deficits is probably not a particularly good idea. Arguing for expanding it would be that its possible for the money to go further in poorer countries, with lower prices, and with lower wealth and economic well being, so that even a small bit of help can be a noticeable improvement, but arguing against it is the fact that long term development aid doesn't seem to be a particularly efficient way to help countries to develop.

Remember, with almost no public support for tinkering with Social Security or Medicare

Which is a major problem because those programs (along with Medicaid) drive the budget.
