Why is the iPhone available only in one design aka Ford model T? Because it simplifies costs tremendously. It's the same reason I believe Apple won't produce a Verizon-compatible phone until either 4G is rolled out next year or the Qualcomm chip is ready to go into smartphones, whichever comes first. I just don't think Apple will support two hardware designs for such a short period of time just to get on Verizon's network.

You mean the Model T which for many, many years was the top selling automobile in the country, and which revolutionized the industry? The vehicle that was so successful that by the time the last one rolled off the line, 10% of the cars in the world were Fords? More than 15 million Model Ts were built, in a variety of styles. That sales record was not surpassed until 1972. The VW Beetle was the car that finally beat the Model T.
