"Tell me...what species are the members of the Tea Party?" Populism has been a pretty powerful force in American politics. But, this is the first time that I am aware of that they got co-opted by the very institutions they have usually opposed. Of course, in the past, we didn't have a major media outlet driving the populism like Fox does. Back in the yellow journalism days, they might have done it. Like they pushed the Spanish-American war. Things might have turned out differently if they had.
